In honor of Valentine's Day, I wanna hear your story! Tell me how you met, how he proposed or even how you hope to be proposed to! I will look over the entries and choose one to spotlight on this blog!
Include all the details...how you met, how long you dated, what you've done together and where you've been. I WANNA HEAR IT ALL!
I'll start...
I met Don, my husband, in a marketing class at Auburn University. (WAR EAGLE) The class had over 300 people in it and so the chances of me sitting next to someone that I would one day marry were slim to none. However...I suppose fate took over....
He SAYS (and yes I still doubt him) that when he walked in, he immediately noticed me and not wanting to be "that guy" he decided to sit beside me but let there be a seat in between us. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that I had several friends in the class and that soon, one would be sitting smack in between us.
Over the course of the next three months, the three of us (me, Don and my friend) got to be friends. We would always compare grades and Don's were ALWAYS better than mine even though this was my major and it was just an elective for him. This would eventually lead to years of relentless behavior that proved he would be superior to me in a variety of activities.
When finals rolled around, I was desperate for help. I was going into the final with a D, which was my worst grade thus far in college. I decided to ask for help...from Don. :)
We scheduled our "study" date and while I was getting ready, my best friend asked, "Why are you putting on make-up if it's just a study date?" GOOD QUESTION. That night we studied for about 15 minutes and then talked for about 6 hours. From that night on, we would spend most every night hanging out and talking.
For the record, he went into the final with a B and came out with a C and I went in with a D and came out with a C. :)
Fast forward about a year...
I was living in Birmingham and he was living in Auburn finishing up a masters degree. We were making it work with one of us driving to the other one on alternating weekends. We had been doing this a while and it was now around Christmas time. We decided that this particular weekend we would go ahead and open our Christmas gifts since he was headed to down to Tampa for Christmas.
We drove around looking for the perfect place to open Christmas gifts. Since it was only the end of November, there weren't a ton of "christmasy" places. As we were driving through Auburn, right in front of Samford Hall, we see a HUGE Christmas tree that is fully decked out. IT WAS PERFECT.
We parked the car and carried our presents over to sit underneath the Christmas tree.
When I opened mine, it was a large wooden jewelry box. To be honest, I didn't care for it all that much but he seemed so darn excited that I was opening all the doors and drawers and oohing and ahhing....
Then I got to the bottom drawer...the ring drawer....and there it was...a beautiful diamond ring! He looked up at me with the BIGGEST grin on his face and said, "Makenzie, will you marry me?"
I then got up and ran off...the smile disappeared..."Where are you going?" he asked. As I was running I yelled back, "I have to tell Marie" (my best friend). Little did I know, she already knew and was waiting with the door open when I got there! He had asked Marie to come look at the ring he picked out WEEKS before to make sure I would like it.
It was the perfect night. I was beginning a new chapter in my life and I was surrounded by my best friends.
What's your story?
Please take the time and email it to me....I want to post some stories in honor of Valentine's Day!
