It's no news to any of us that the economy is impacting everyone and everything; this includes weddings. The days of grand ballrooms and extravagant food spreads have turned into quaint and intimate affairs.
While for some, this will seem like cutting back, for others it will make the occasion even more special, having only close friends and family near on their special day.
In 2010, I expect you will see a lot more backyard weddings with modest food and lots of fun! Having a small wedding in a place that is personal to you will allow you to get creative! When there are no rules to follow (like in some venues) you have the opportunity to design a day that will reflect you and your bride/groom.
You can make a backyard wedding an elegant affair, with white lights, lace and lilies or you can make it a casual wedding with BBQ, beer and a great band!
Just because you are not spending a lot on your wedding, doesn't mean it won't be perfect and memorable. If anything, having a small wedding really helps to showcase the bride and groom's personalities.
If you are planning a small, backyard style wedding, make it yours! Take things that reflect who you are and incorporate them into your special day. If you are "one of the boys", have a keg! If you are the life of the party, have a great band and a big dance floor! If you love fireworks, have a fireworks show! This is your special day!
Personalize, personalize, personalize!
